SC-S29/W4- Nostalgia Of The Little Me : People Who Shaped My Childhood.

in Story On Steem7 days ago

Hi guys, accept warm Steem greetings from the motherland of Cameroon, and welcome to my blog, where I share my thoughts on the challenge topic “Nostalgia Of The Little Me : People Who Shaped My Childhood”.

Every child has one or more people who guide them and help shape their childhood, and I was no exception. Through their presence, guidance, and everyday support, these individuals influenced the values I learned, the confidence I built, and the person I grew into, leaving an impact that continues to shape my life today.

That said, before proceeding with the questions that will guide the write-up, I will invite @max-pro, @suboohi, and @ruthjoe to take part in the challenge.

Who is the person (or people) that shaped your childhood the most?

My childhood was shaped by my parents, and later, my eldest sister, who stepped in with strength and love when health and ageing challenges made things harder for my parents.

My mother, father and eldest sister.

From my earliest memories, my parents were my constant support system, showing me what safety, care, and discipline looked like. Through everyday moments, school runs, shared meals, quiet talks, and celebrations helped built a foundation I only truly understood as I grew older.

My parents taught me values that still guide me today which amongst them were honesty, hard work, and respect for others. They did not just talk about these things, they lived them and I learned from them.Watching them face responsibilities, push through setbacks, and treat others with kindness taught me lessons and values I could not have learn while in school. Even their mistakes were meaningful, because they showed me accountability and how to grow from failure.

They also encouraged curiosity and independence, letting me ask questions, explore my interests, and make my own small choices. That trust built my confidence and sense of responsibility. Knowing I had their support, and later my sister’s gave me the courage to try, to fail, and to try again.

Looking back, I see how deeply their influence runs. So many of my beliefs, habits, and goals trace back to their love, guidance, and everyday example. They did not only shape me in one big moment, but through years of showing up and that impact still lives in who I am today.

What is your earliest or most memorable memory with this person?

One of my earliest and most memorable memories with them is the simple, everyday moments that felt ordinary at the time but now mean so much more. I remember being guided through school mornings, sitting together during meals, and listening to their calm voices as they offered advice and reassured me that I should always count on them for support anytime. Those moments made me feel safe and supported, and they created a sense of stability that stayed with me even as I grew older.

Another memory that stands out is how they were always present during important moments, whether I succeeded or struggled. They celebrated my small victories and helped me learn from my mistakes without fear or shame. Through their guidance with patience, I learned confidence, resilience, and the importance of having someone who truly believes in you.

How did this person guide, support, or discipline you during childhood?

My dad was a disciplinarian par excellence, firm and consistent in setting rules and expectations, while my mom had a softer heart when it came to discipline.Together, they guided me by leading through example rather than force, offering steady advice and clear boundaries that helped me understand the difference between right and wrong. Discipline in our home was more about teaching than punishment as they explained consequences, encouraged responsibility, and helped me learn from my mistakes in ways that built character rather than fear.

Beyond discipline, they supported me both emotionally and practically, always making time to listen and encourage me. Whether I was facing challenges at school or struggling with self-doubt, they reassured me and pushed me to keep moving forward. This helped shape my confidence, resilience, and strong values, which continue to guide my decisions today.

What values, habits, or lessons did you learn from them?

As I earlier mentioned, I learned the value of honesty, hard work, and respect for others. They taught me that integrity matters, even when no one is watching, and that consistency and discipline are key to achieving long-term goals.

I also learned the importance of taking responsibility for my actions and understanding that mistakes are not failures, but opportunities to grow and do better.

They also instilled habits, such as perseverance, patience, and empathy that still guide my daily life. Through their example, I learned how to balance, strength with compassion, and independence with respect for others. These lessons shaped my character and continue to influence how I approach challenges, relationships, and decisions today.

How does their influence still reflect in your life today?

My parents and eldest sister’s influence continues to show in how I make decisions and carry out my responsibilities today. I face challenges with discipline, patience, and a strong sense of accountability, always guided by the values they instilled in me. The blend of firmness and compassion they demonstrated still shapes how I set personal boundaries and relate to others.

I see their impact in my work ethic, resilience, and the way I treat people. I aim to be honest, respectful, and empathetic, even in difficult moments, because those values were modeled for me throughout my upbringing. Their guidance has become part and parcel of me, shaping not only my actions but the person I continue to grow into.

In sum, the guidance, values, and love I received from them laid a strong foundation for my life. Their influence shaped my character, strengthened my resilience, and continues to guide my choices each day. What they gave me goes beyond childhood, it lives on in who I am and in the way I move through the world.
