Forgotten Toys.

Things that were once our dreams sometimes suddenly slip from memory; yet, years later, you might pull a dusty box of toys out of the closet and recall the sheer happiness you felt when you were given that model train set—complete with electric locomotives and both freight and passenger cars.

But, you know, the same thing happens with things that aren't toys at all.

I remember a trip back in 1993, traveling in the only carriage running from Chișinău to Ceadîr-Lunga—from the capital to the south of Moldova.

The ride was terrible and the carriage was packed, but at least I was riding rather than walking or spending extra money on fuel.

Later, over the years, Moldova’s railway system and infrastructure fell into disrepair; it is hard to imagine what the people who worked there went through.

But word has it that the government has decided to open that dusty closet and revive the industry.

That would be a good thing.

In the Moldovan capital, buses and trolleybuses are the primary modes of public transport, yet there is a street where you can still see tram tracks peeking through the asphalt... I wonder if tram service will ever be revived there?

Everything has a shelf life. If you manage to pull that box of toys out before everything inside turns to dust, there’s hope for a revival; if you miss your chance, well—just toss it in the trash and buy yourself some new toys, lol.
