One of our Barrio's officers went by the house the other day to give us my claim stub for claiming a gift from the town Mayor. My mother was the one which received the claim stub and so she went on to the Municipal town building along with hundreds of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and or their caregivers/relatives so that they can get what the Mayor will suppose to give.

I am glad that my mother was able to get there because of her joint issues. But her pain would get some improvement if she would take some of the NSAID pain medication that I also was using and because of it she will feel better as the pain really would go away. However my mother could not really carry such heavy box of "relief goods" so she said to us that she just called a tricycle service to drop her off back here in our house without carrying it to a Jeepney public transport and then to another tricycle, she just went to take the Tricycle public transport direct to save her some extra burden.

Yes we are thankful about this supposed gift from the Mayor but the people who went to the Municipal town hall was held there for a while to listen to the speech of some of the candidates who are allied to the Mayor and the mayor herself which made me believe that they just gave the gifts for PWDs as the way of campaigning for themselves and that we should be thankful to them even though that these gifts came from the Provincial government and not directly from the mayor herself nor from her Municipal political allies.

Also, considering that the recipients are PWDs, they could just gave the gifts directly to our homes to save us the burden and extra effort like what my mother did where now she has some trouble with her joints. That is why some of the recipients that my mother talked with also had the same thoughts that these town officials had done which is why they are not really amused but still thankful that at least they had some things to bring home. The contents of the gift box which is actually a box of relief goods which I guess was already aging from its warehouse for months are few kilos of rice, 3 in 1 coffee sachets, chocolate drink packets, and more than a dozen of sardines and tuna. These foods are enough for a family to survive on for a few days in times of disaster if no food can be available to have in some instances made by Typhoon-related situations.

I'm glad that people see through such trickery, I guess from their point of view it's free food for attending their speech in hopes of support.

Yeah they can't really fool the people here so I guess that in the next election the mayor will be voted out because of her politicking tactics which really is not people-friendly.

Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.

First, your mom looks better than a while ago.
Secondly, what they gave can get spoiled unless it's kept under poor conditions. It reminds me of a (Christmas) package I received for several years (red cross and some other aid agencies). We had to pick it up as well and in most cases it was a collection of leftovers (food/drinks) a normal person wouldn't buy or gift anyone with. Useless in this case. Only the last time we could prepare 2 meals out of it. A part we gave away to a neighbour.
Back then I could walk the distance but lifting and carrying the parcel was a different story.
I assume picking up has benefits for example they will know a certain percentage will not show up. I am glad we didn't have to hear a promotion talk from the mayor. definetliy I wouldn't go over there to hear the greatness of the leading party. Mayors are not chosen by the people with us. That's not part of the democracy.

Hot cocoa is always good in case of need.
