Hello my dear Steemians,

Today I wanted to share with you the pictures from last weekend. Actually the weekend was very ordinary weekend for us, that means despite of having free, it is a lot of work at home, especially for @myskye.

Old Solid wooden floor

First of all I would like to ask you: are you the person who likes carpet or old fashioned wood?

When we moved in our living room it had an old carpet, the carpet was dusty and really stinky due to age. Of course we have removed it immediately. Luckily we have seen a wooden floor. You can imagine our face, we were happy to see it and definitely wanted to keep it.

The floor is made of solid thick wood that was a good side of it but on other hand it was not carefully cut on some places.

Obviously in the past it was necessity to either to lay some electric cables and maybe some pipes for heating or water. No matter what was the reason but the floor was on some areas destroyed.

  • Laminate flooring is between 5 - 13mm thick
  • Parquet flooring is between 3 -15mm thick
  • most common thickness of solid hardwood is between 19 – 22mm
  • but our 200 years old floor is 28mm thick.

To buy new or upgrade old

Now seeing that we were in front of dilemma what to do, to remove the whole old floor and put new? But then it is very expensive games and would cost us a fortune. On other hand the majority of flooring is intact and made of good solid floor with nice edges made of different type of red coloured and fine wood. So it was not so difficult to decided: we will upgrade ourselves.

That means for @myskye to work hard with wood to treat wood with anti-woodworm treatment first and then to replace those that are rotten with new.

Luckily despite of 200 year old floor the quality of most of the wood was really good. Currently we need to work along the external wall to replace and to re-inforce the wood along the walls and then to replace the ones that were cut with the full length wood planks.

At the moment we are just in the middle of the work despite of working everyday.

We will keep posting our DIY diary and hope you like it.

I know you have a lot of work to do when an older house is to be restored.
Woow 200 year old floor, then I would say keep the soul of the house and the floor. I would have done it, the floor is incredibly nice and I hope you manage to restore what is needed.

You know my background that I have mentioned before.
But before I was 21, I trained to be a carpenter.
2 years education in woodworking at the vocational school and after that in further practicals in the building subject. I started vocational school when I was 15 years old.
So that background I have taken advantage of many times later with my own renovation of houses and help for others.
hehe, I'm renovating my own house yet.
Today my children are adults and they all have their own house and they benefit a lot from my experience as a carpenter. hehe I will not be unemployed.

The circular saw you show in the picture "Metabo" is exactly like mine. It is a great circular saw and has good quality.

Hi @xpilar that was very interesting to know about your background, it is very impressive that you went for woodworking study with 15 years. I love wood and so fascinated with all the old time objects and wood works that were done in the past. I know know why you love old wooden ship, there are a lot of hand works invested and many of them were unique.

To see this floor especially at the window due to the shape it is also looks like on the deck.
The Metabo saw is amazing my husband really loves it, he screwed it to an old heavy table so that it is stable and we have a good surface to use it.

Your family might be very proud of you and your skills, it is always good to have such knowledge when you have to renovate or build something.

Thanks for such wonderful feedback and sharing your experience :)

Hi Leonardo, thank you or your interest. The are three different types depending where on the floor, middle is thick pine, on some area the same thickness oak and at the edges and window nice slightly red Meranti, they are also much narrow planks then the middle ones.
You probably use different wood for your instruments but you have such beautiful profession to create intruments :)

Great Post and Pictures @stef1 and @myskye. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Hi @fijimermaid, me too while working now it is difficult to imagine that it will even end. But we always think back about how it was initially then of course we can appreciate the all work that is done.

Your post is amazing dude. You post all you work and I got very much information from your post.

Thanks for sharing...
