MAD AS A HATTER
The Poet feels the cold,
feels the cold and goes hungry.
Yet he spends his days
singing in challenge,
in challenge with himself,
seated in the tavern.
The conversation has no end,
no end and no name,
unfolding without commotion.
The Poet is mad as a hatter,
mad as a hatter, that’s for sure!

So many times he dies
and so many times he’s reborn!
But he rises even worse.
Like a mischievous child,
he turns things inside out
to understand them better.
And sometimes he falls to the ground
because an intense light
suddenly astonished him.
Amidst the crowd
he stands alone, indifferent.
Indifferent to all,
whether strangers or friends.
Indifferent to danger,
he lives his life without mischief.

But by what strange design
does he dare to believe
that intense light
is a sign from the heavens,
and that, in the midst of wonder,
he feels the hand of God
gently touch his shoulder?
