Just Because We Can, Should We?
Daybook February 4
In nursing education and practice, technology should follow purpose—not replace judgment. Ethical questions keep care human-centered.
New technologies arrive quickly in nursing education—platforms, devices, dashboards, and AI tools.
Their presence often feels inevitable.
Patricia Coyle-Rogers offers a needed pause.
Before adopting any tool, ask a different question—not Can we use it? but Should we?
This shift matters.
Technology can streamline work, but it can also distance us from people if it replaces listening, judgment, or relationship.
Ethical use begins with restraint.
When technology serves clarity, safety, and care, it belongs.
When it serves novelty alone, it should wait.
One Line for Nurses and Learners:
Ethics begins where restraint is practiced.
