SteemHome A Complete Walkthrough of the SLC & Competition Management System
Hello Steemians,
Today, we are excited to share a complete walkthrough of the new Challenge Management System available on SteemHome, including support for Steemit Learning Challenges (SLC) and community competitions.
The main goal of this system is to make challenge organization much easier, more transparent, and more enjoyable for everyone involved whether you are an organizer, evaluator, moderator, or participant. Instead of relying on spreadsheets, external tools, Discord coordination, or manual tracking, everything can now be managed directly inside one integrated platform connected to the Steem blockchain.
This walkthrough explains how the system currently works, how evaluations are handled, how scores are calculated, and how challenge data is published directly on-chain for transparency and verification.
What Is the Challenge Management System?
The challenge system is designed to help communities and moderators organize writing contests and educational programs directly on Steem in a much more structured and automated way.
With SteemHome, organizers can:
- Create challenges in just a few steps
- Define custom scoring criteria
- Assign evaluators
- Automatically collect participant submissions using tags
- Publish evaluations directly to the blockchain
- Track scores and challenge progress in real time
For participants, the process becomes very simple because they only need to publish a post using the challenge tag, and the system automatically detects the submission without requiring manual registration.
Two Types of Challenges
Currently, the platform supports two main challenge categories.
Standard Challenges
These are regular community competitions that can be created by any authenticated Steem user. They are ideal for writing contests, seasonal events, educational activities, or any community-driven competition.
Steemit Learning Challenges (SLC)
These are official Steemit Learning Challenge programs organized by approved moderators and educators participating in the SLC ecosystem.
This separation allows the platform to support both official educational initiatives and regular community activities while keeping the management process organized and scalable.
How a Challenge Is Built
Every challenge inside SteemHome is based on four main building blocks that work together to create a complete competition workflow.
1. Challenge Parameters
The organizer starts by configuring the basic information of the challenge, including:
- Title
- Description
- Main tag
- Additional tags
- Duration
- Category
- Banner image
- Announcement post link
The main tag is one of the most important elements because the system uses it to automatically detect all participant submissions published on the blockchain.
This means participants do not need to register manually or fill out forms. If the post contains the correct challenge tag, it automatically appears inside the submission list.

|---|
2. Scoring Criteria
Organizers can define custom evaluation criteria depending on the type of challenge they are running.
For example:
- Writing quality
- Originality
- Topic relevance
- Creativity
- Technical accuracy
- Presentation quality
Each criterion can include:
- A maximum score
- A weight value
- Optional validation checks
The system also includes default boolean checks such as:
- Plagiarism free
- AI content free
- Bot free & Steem exclusive
This gives evaluators a more professional and standardized scoring environment while helping maintain fairness and content quality across competitions.
3. Evaluators
Organizers can assign up to three evaluators to each challenge.
These evaluators are responsible for:
- Reviewing submissions
- Giving scores
- Adding comments and feedback
- Publishing evaluations on-chain
The organizer can even assign themselves as one of the evaluators if needed.
This structure is especially useful for large SLC programs where many submissions need to be reviewed consistently and transparently.
4. Automatic Submission Management
One of the most useful parts of the system is the automatic submission tracking.
The platform automatically categorizes posts into:
- All submissions
- Not evaluated
- Already evaluated
- Evaluated by me
This removes a huge amount of manual work for moderators and evaluators because they no longer need to search manually through tags or maintain external spreadsheets.
The Full Challenge Lifecycle
Every challenge goes through five main stages from creation to completion.
1. Creation
The organizer configures the challenge settings, scoring criteria, and evaluators.
2. Announcement
An official announcement post can be published directly on Steem and linked to the challenge.
3. Submission Period
Participants publish their posts using the challenge tag, and the system automatically detects them.
4. Evaluation
Evaluators review posts, assign scores, and publish evaluation comments.
5. Expiration
After the configured duration ends, the challenge automatically closes while preserving all submissions and evaluations permanently on-chain.
This automated lifecycle makes challenge management much more efficient and reliable compared to traditional manual workflows.
How the Scoring System Works
The scoring engine uses a weighted average system scaled to a final score out of 10.
This approach allows organizers to prioritize certain criteria more than others depending on the nature of the challenge.
For example:
- Originality may carry more weight in creative contests
- Technical accuracy may be more important in educational challenges
- Presentation may have smaller weight compared to content quality
The walkthrough also includes detailed examples and visual demonstrations showing exactly how the final score is calculated.
Blockchain Transparency and On-Chain Evaluations
One of the most important aspects of this system is transparency.
When an evaluator confirms an evaluation:
- The score is saved
- A structured evaluation comment is generated
- The transaction is signed using the evaluator’s posting key
- The comment is published directly under the participant’s post on the Steem blockchain
This means evaluations are:
- Public
- Verifiable
- Permanent
- Immutable
The results are not hidden inside a private database controlled by the application because they become part of the blockchain history itself.
This Is a Living System That Will Continue to Improve
It is very important to mention that the current version of the challenge management system is still an evolving version.
Although the platform is already fully functional and usable, we consider this release to be the foundation of a much larger system that will continue to improve over time based on real usage, feedback, and newly discovered needs from the community.
As more organizers, moderators, and participants start using the system, we will certainly identify:
- New workflows
- Missing tools
- Usability improvements
- Moderation requirements
- Additional automation opportunities
For this reason, many parts of the platform will continue to evolve progressively in future updates.
Our objective is not only to create a challenge system, but to build a complete ecosystem that makes Steem competitions and educational programs easier, cleaner, more transparent, and more scalable for everyone involved.

You have created a really great project through which those who actually have different types of challenges can easily post challenges and at the same time write the articles that Random writes. I checked it a little as a test for your kindness but I couldn't publish it in any way. I don't know if it's still in development or not.

Thank you so much for your feedback and for taking the time to test the platform.
Yes, the project is still actively under development, and some features are still being stabilized and improved progressively. That is probably why you experienced difficulties while trying to publish.
The main objective of the platform is exactly what you described making it easier for users and communities to create, manage, and evaluate challenges in a much more organized and transparent way directly on Steem.
Your feedback is very valuable because these tests help identify issues and improve the user experience before the platform becomes fully mature. More fixes, optimizations, and improvements are coming very soon.
Thank you so much for your reply,, Haha fast complete development we are waiting published my post ...
You have presented a very nice system to us today. In fact, we who host different types of contests have to struggle a lot, starting from different rules and regulations to how to make the post attractive. However, I think the system you have shared with us will be much easier and by using it, you can create such nice and simple challenges and contests, which is very nice to see. At the same time, I like the future goals you have. In addition, I will try to use every little thing in it and after using everything well, I will try to reveal what are the advantages and disadvantages of it. But thank you very much for presenting such a nice system to us. I hope you can go far and share its maximum development with us so that users can experience it very well.

Hello,
I had the idea that challenge contests can be not only when users write individual posts. They can be like a comment contest, where contestants write everything in the comments. We used to have one, and it was quite popular. It's like a blitz contest, a mini-contest - where all the participation will be in the comments
but is it necessary to make such an option in the interface? every organizer will simply say this in the rules
It's a shame that the Disconected Rat hasn't been blogging for six months, but it was nice and convenient to search for contests.

Thank you very much for these ideas and observations.
The idea of comment-based contests is actually very interesting, especially for fast mini-challenges, quizzes, or blitz contests with quick participation. I had mainly focused on post-based challenges for this first version, but your suggestion opens interesting possibilities for lighter and more interactive contest formats in the future.
And yes, you are probably right that in many cases organizers can simply explain this in the rules without necessarily requiring a dedicated interface option immediately. It may be better to first see how people naturally use the platform before adding too many specific configurations.
I also agree about Disconnected Rat. It was a very useful way to discover and track contests across Steem, and contest discoverability is definitely something I would like to improve progressively inside the platform as the project evolves.
Thank you again for the thoughtful feedback and ideas.
