Wooden Sculptures in Myeongboo-Jeon Hall of Chiljangsa Temple, Anseong City
There were several halls in Chiljangsa temple, and Myeongboo Jeon is one of those impressive architectures with its wooden sculptures.
As entering the hall, I could see the main sculptures in the center of the hall.
It was Jijang bodhisattva who was praying for the deads to be saved from the inferno. The eyes of Jijang bodhisattva looks so special, he seemed to penetrate people's mind.
In my guess, the artists wanted to describe that people should look back their sins before praying for salvation.
There were 10 kings who judged the sins of the deads.
Five left and five right
Among these sculptures, what caught my eyes were the warriors standing at the end of the sculptures.
Their clothes and face made me estimate that the image of the warriors seemed to be borrowed from middle Asia.

This are amazing sculpture by all means wow. I think the one. The one in the Chiljangsa Temple front which seems golden is definitely beautiful. The main sculpture is cool you'd hardly know that it's wooden, expecially the ones side by side that seems borrowed from middle Asia. Welldone, awesome shot.
The colors of each of the Figures is Amazing. to Carve and Paint such details is truly remarkable. @slowwalker
Before meeting those 10 kings, I should do good.^^

I think not only the details of sculptures, colours but also their size must be impressive, when seeing the ceiling and the floor I can imagine that they might be almost a size of a human :)
I'm back for another dose of that rich Korean heritage! Amazing how things used to be isn't?
Wishing you the best from Salinas Ecuador! -Dan
