thirtydayfitness - Day 13 - Exercise
I can't believe that I am on day 13 of this challenge and I haven't started to exercise! I think that I have been looking at other parts of my fitness. Calories, being number one and also just a general sense of enjoying food and trying to find out when I am full, I think that I am very slowly getting there.
But today, I decided to add exercise to my fitness arsenal.
Walk before breakfast
I have been lying to myself for a while occasionally getting a glimpse of a fat "stranger" in the mirror and promising myself that I would "start on Monday".Monday's came and went like clockwork and my "heart attack and Stroke belt" just got bigger.
This wee screenshot might not seem much to a lot of people, in fact it may not even seem that impressive, but it is a big deal for me.
I walked at a good brisk pace and came back to the work building a wee bit breathless and just a big bit sweaty :-)
A walk after lunch
I'm going to try and go for at least one walk a day, it is great to get out and just clears the head.
Today, I had a gap at lunchtime and took it and went out for another brisk walk, it is all about sustainability and while I would like to walk twice a day at work, I know in my heart of hearts that there will be days when I will be lucky to walk even once in the work day.
There are many benefits to walking but here are 12 benefits of walking
- Walking improves circulation
- Walking shores up your bones
- Walking leads to a longer life
- Walking lightens mood
- Walking can lead to weight loss
- Walking strengthens muscles
- Walking improves sleep
- Walking supports your joints
- Walking improves your breat
- Walking slows mental decline
- Walking lowers Alzheimer’s risk
- Walking helps you do more, longer
Good old fashioned Aerobic exercise - old school
I have a Joe Wicks book on my bedside locker sitting gathering dust for the last two years, and yesterday I thought that I would read it again. There are some very good recipes in it, but the one thing that really caught my eye was his concept of HIIT workouts.
I like the idea of them as you can do them at home, yesterday I did
Running on the spot for 30 seconds * 6
StarJumps for 30 seconds * 6
10 push ups * 6
10 situps * 6
I was knackered after doing them and actually felt some pain in muscles that I haven't used for a while. I'm going to experiment some more, but I think that I will definitely make this a part of my exercise regime.
Running
A bit like my "starting on Mondays", I am going to start running over the next few days and will let you all know when I start.
The great thing about Steemit is that I have to start as my intention is forever recorded on the block-chain.
As always, thank you all for your support and I hope that you had/are having a good Monday :-)

As always thanks to @ryivhnn for his creativity and generosity in giving me this, please follow him

And so it begins.......... ;-)
You're doing really well. Don't try to do everything at once. the fact that is is day 13 and you are just now starting to exercise is actually a good thing.
Instead of overwhelming yourself by trying to do everything at once and solve the whole problem in a weekend, you're being smart and focusing on one thing at a time. this may seem like it will take longer, but in fact it won't.
Trying to do it all at once will lead to failure 99 times out of 100. Doing it the way you are gives you the best chance of long term success.
My recommendation, for what it is worth - the HIT training will not help you lose weight. It will increase your aerobic fitness which will help with being out of breath, but it won't shift the weight.
What you are looking for is long duration low intensity stuff - like the walking you are doing. That's really good for you.
When you get to adding running into your regime, I would recommend going for a walk. At the half way mark, jog just lightly for 100 yards. Then walk the rest of it.
Do that for a week and see how your body feels (this might hurt a surprising amount at the start). Then you just add more 100 yard jogs in the second half (run 100, walk 100, run 100) until you find you are walking the first half to warm up, and then jogging home.
You can add resistance by walking laps at your local pool (if you have one). It is nice on your joints because the water supports your body, but it increases the effort you have to put in. And you get to play with your kids as well ;-)
I hope that helps.
You're doing well. I'd like to say it gets easier, but what usually happens is you start to feel better, stronger, fitter, more up for a challenge. so you end up challenging yourself to go further, faster, and the next thing you know you've signed up for an ultramarathon hehe

As always you do make sense, I like the walking and it will eventually lead to a couch to 5k or something similar with walking breaks built into the program.
You are right about trying to do to much to soon, I was a bit over zealous with the HIT training last night and my muscles felt it today, so took a rest from it for this evening.
Small steps done right will take me a long way and that is what I want....a long way from bigger trousers ;-)
As for challenges...after this 30 day challenge I'll have to keep moving forward, I always find it easier to keep aiming for small targets.
Hope you having a good day :-)
Changing your life is always a difficult endeavor, takes alot of commitment and fortitude. I admire you for giving it a go...Good luck your a better person then me.LOL
I Just needed to make a change either my clothes or me ;-)
It's a tough choice to make. Glad you stopped by. Best of luck with your new endeavor! 🐓🐓
Great Job!!! I love doing HIIT training and you burn calories even when you are not training sitting on the couch hours after working out its magical :) I also have a little challenge of my own just going to the gym as much as possible hopefully I can keep it up I do love the feeling you get from exercising or just eating right so I think it should be easy... Keep up the good work and the challenge :D
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement :-)
I checked out your challenge, some epic workouts and you are only on Day 2...keep up the great work!
sixty pushups in one day? I'm impressed, mate.
Don't be' in the end they were juat pushes rather than push ups ;-)
Definitely got a bit carried away and my body was one big ache!
