10 years of expat life

in #expat10 hours ago

It's been 10 years living as an expat in Oman. I always wanted to live out of Country for a few years and hence mean hubby were looking out for opportunities and then this came. But our target was never this long. We thought we would stay for 6 to 8 years and then move back to India. This was always the thought process. But then as time went by, we started settling very comfortably in Oman and made a good life here. Though I miss India a lot and always want to keep going back to my land, but then I must agree that I have got equally fond of Muscat also.

At this point of time, it is confusing for me whether to go back permanently or not, because I like this mix of life between Mumbai and Muscat. It is giving me the best of both worlds. I have a good social life in both the places. Both the places offer me work opportunities. Quality of life is better here in Muscat in terms of pollution and health, this is also one reason why I like here. Air is clean and infrastructure is super. Population is less here so there are open and clean places to move around. I love the mountain and sea life of Muscat. There are lot of benefits, so I think why not continue till I can. But that's for sure I am not going to settle here. May be a couple of more years and then I will take a decision to move back to Mumbai, because the most important, family is there, which is above everything for me.

While it all looks good, still at the end of the day expat life is not very colorful also, there are pros and cons of everything. There is always a threat of job security and instability. And too many rules to follow. That time I feel living in our own Country is better, we can live freely and not under constant monitoring. Anyways let's see how many more years I can spend here in Muscat.
