The Auspicious Day

in #festivalyesterday

India celebrates many festivals and each one of them have significance of its own. Yesterday was Akshaya Tritiya, it's a festival associated with prosperity and investment, which we believe grows over time. There is a very interesting story behind the why this festival is celebrated. In the story of Mahabharata, we all know that Pandavas was exiled along with their wife Draupadi. At that time a saint in the forest sent across a message to her saying he would be visiting them for meals. When this message reached Draupadi, she realized there was absolutely no food left for her to serve them.

She paid to Lord Krishna and he appeared in front of her. He told her he was very hungry, she had nothing to serve him, there was only one grain of rice stuck in the pot, he ate that and then gave a blessing to Draupadi and the Pot turning the pot into one that would provide food that never gets over. The Pot was called Akshaya Patra, meaning the one that never ends. Later the saint came as informed earlier and he came with 400 more saints along with him. Draupadi could feed all of them from that one single pot. She kept serving them and the food never got over. So is this action having a significance in our lives, when we keep giving and serving with a pure heart we keep receiving in abundance.

Majority of the people believe in buying Gold on this day, just like the day of Dhanteras during the festival of Diwali, this particular day is also considered very auspicious for any investments. There are massive prayer offerings also done on this day.

There are many other stories also associated with this day, in general all of them come to the same conclusion; Do good and the good will come back to you.
