Happy Holi to my Indian community

in #holi11 days ago

Holi the festival of colors is a joyous time to celebrate. It's the most colorful festival for we Indians. Though I do not play Holi every year, I do enjoy the festival and I have some very special memories of the years when I have played Holi with family and friends. After playing with colors everyone becomes unrecognizable. The festival of Holi marks the arrival of spring a time of renewal and rejuvenation.

There are some mythological legends behind this festival. One where it is said that Holi is a celebration when Prahalad a Vishnu devotee came out unscathed from fire while Holika on whole lap Prahalad was seated and had power of an invisible cloak of fire protection burned down due to her ill intentions, and thus this festival is celebrated to mark the victory of the good over the evil. Another legend says that this festival is celebrated to mark the divine love of Lord Krishna and Radha.

There are some prayer rituals done a night before where a lot of offerings are made in the fire and the beginning of spring season and new harvest is celebrated.

This year I am not playing with colors. It is Ramadan time and hence no Holi celebrations are there in the city. There were some celebrations post Ramadan but I could not attend that. As it is I do not celebrate it every year. Sharing some memories of my past Holi celebrations.
