Good character earns respect

It is possible to get charmed by a person with good appearance, but if the person's character is beautiful then its all the more charming. But sadly in today's time many people care more about appearance then character and many focus on that also for themselves. People spend loads of money to look good, buy branded clothes, do cosmetic surgeries and what not, but the same people may not focus equally on building their character. If the appearance is not good some get in to a panic mode, but if they speak lies or cheat someone, it may not bother them at all. Why is it that we have reached to this stage where everything is show business. Again I am not generalizing but yes to be honest this is at large happening in the world.

Our focus goes more on the visuals rather then what we feel, feeling is secondary and the visual impact is immediate. Also character is not something that can be seen openly whereas appearance is straight on the face and hence it gets more attention. People can manipulate in portraying their character and these days even looks can be manipulated with cosmetics and a lot of efforts is put on that. But people are still more worried about the looks then character. Get exposed in appearance is more embarrassing then getting exposed in character.

I believe that character does not get build in a day, it is the values that one shows in all the small moments and experiences of life. When a character never changes irrespective of someone being around or not that's the true respect one earns for themselves. It is not about showing off that I am a good person, it is about the feeling that one gets in your company that speaks about the character. A good appearance may pull lot of people towards you but not necessary one will earn respect with it, but a good character will definitely earn respect irrespective of whatever the appearance is.
