Using your Credit Card sensibly

in #money6 hours ago

Since past few months my son has been asking me to shift to a new credit card, not actually shift but to upgrade the existing one. I have been using the credit card for a very long time, and I prefer to pay all the home bills on card, also I buy all the utilities on the credit card. Almost everything I buy I buy on the card. I budget it and then buy so that I do not have issues paying it off. So annually the spend amount is good. Why I do this? It is only to accumulate the reward points I get on the spend of the card, which is quite good. Yearly with the reward points my 2 months utilities get free, it is worth using the card for me.

So, my son did extensive research and then he told me that just upgrading my card would get me more reward points. I am already using the limit needed for free card, so why not. I have my big bills of Airbnb also, so all of it together comes to good amount. With this spend, the card gets free and I do not have to pay any annual charges.

I was not sure though of changing but he insisted so finally after some homework I upgraded my card and yes, it has been useful. I get more reward points on this card. The card also has its own portal from where I can buy things at a lesser price. There are better cash back benefits and overall, it is advantageous for me. Only one golden rule to set while using a credit card, spend only what you budget for. Never spend the money you do not have thinking you will manage it later, because once you start doing that then it's possible to get in debts and the high interest that will be charged on late payment will kill you.

It's only been 2 months that I have started using the new card and I have almost 10% value of the amount used, which is a good profit for me.
