Heavy pollution in the city

Mumbai has been bad this time with its air quality index. Currently the AQI of Mumbai city is 255 which is really very unhealthy. This problem has started since the past couple of years, especially after covid-19. The main reason behind this low AQI is the increasing construction work without proper measures, increasing vehicle emissions and the stagnant winter air. Every year this is becoming a common story in the months of winter.

Previously, there were very few sky scrapers in the city but now all around, the skyline is filled with sky scrapers, and this is one of the biggest contributors. During covid times, there were lot of approvals sanctioned for redevelopments and now all of these works are in progress. In place of 4 and 5 floor buildings now there are 20 and 30 floor buildings coming up, which means more people occupying the same space, and a greater number of vehicles, everything contributing to increasing pollution in the city. Every lane there is construction work going on and it feels like madness.

The whole city is under smog; it is advisable to wear a mask and step out. I hate to wear a mask but under these circumstances it's best else I know I am going to end up with a throat infection. Last 2 years it has been the case. Infrastructure and development is good but not at the cost of health. Right now, it's recommended to stay indoors and minimize exposure to poor air quality. I would have gone away to my other home away from the city if not for hubby's treatment, because there the air is clean and unpolluted, but right now I cannot do that. The only thing I can do it take care of myself with proper measures.
