Steemit Update [September 21st, 2026] : Community Curators for October - Trying Something Old!
Following on from last month’s changes with the Community Curators and the new Season 34 Challenge format, there is clearly an appetite amongst the community for trying new ideas.
The new approach tried with the Community Curators in September has at best been only marginally successful. Some more radical changes are needed.
The post made by @dove11 generated a considerable amount of discussion about potential changes for the Community Curator system.
While not all the changes put forward in the post gained widespread support, one suggestion that did pick up more significant backing was the idea of people applying individually to be picked for a Curator team.
This would be a new approach in the current context - but it is in fact an old idea that was in place until May 2024.
The Community Curators for October
For October we are inviting individuals to apply if they would like to be Community Curators.
From the individual applications we will select the Curator teams.
Assuming there are sufficient suitable applicants we will be aiming for three people in each of the eleven teams.
There will be no themes or special directions for the selected curation teams.
All teams will be free to vote on any posts or comments as long as they are not plagiarized or AI generated.
How to Apply as a Community Curator
If you would like to be considered as a Community Curator you should make a post including…
A brief summary of your history on Steem.
Details of any positions of responsibility you have held on Steem.
Details of specialist or professional skills or expertise you have in ‘real life’.
What country you live in and what languages you can read fluently.
Your key stats - own SP, CSI, Reputation, Delegations.
Any subjects you particularly enjoy curating.
To apply to become a Community Curator you must have at least 11,000 SP of your own (not delegated to you).
Applicants who have delegated any significant proportion of their SP to voting or earning services are less likely to be successful.
Those who are regularly posting, who are actively curating with all or most of their SP and have a good CSI will be given preference.
Keep posts brief and easy to follow. Include the tag #curatorapplication in the first four tags.
Applications can be made in any language.
Posts should be submitted by 11.59pm UTC, on Sunday, September 27th, 2026.
How Community Curators will be rewarded
Every day all teams will be allowed to allocate one full vote to a member’s post - ideally in rotation amongst the members of the team.
In total no more than 10% of the account’s voting power should be used on team members each week.
Additionally each week the team should post a report in the Steem POD community with a list of their top 7 posts, with a brief note of why each post was chosen.
The posts will be voted by @steemcurator01.
Selecting Posts from other Community Curators
There have recently been a number of comments that Community Curators are too often selecting the posts of other Community Curators for their weekly winners.
We strongly encourage Curators to look beyond the posts of other Community Curators for their weekly ‘top 7’ selected posts.
To help with the monitoring of this we would like Community Curators to include in their weekly posts a report of how many of the seven selected posts are from other Community Curators.
This reporting may have an impact on the vote percentage given by sc01 for the weekly post.

The new Curation Teams will be announced by the end of the month, with a view to starting at the beginning of October.
October will very much be an experimental month. We hope this new (old) selection process will invigorate the Community Curators.

En mi opinión personal sugiero que no se debería incluir en el top semanal de cada equipo alguna publicación de otro curador de algún equipo ya que estos cuentan con el apoyo del equipo steemit por su trabajo cada semana, entonces si la idea es apoyar el mayor número de usuarios lo lógico sería que cada equipo en su top semanal incluya usuarios que no pertenecen a equipo de curación si no que se les de oportunidad a aquellos usuarios que no reciben tanto apoyo claro siempre y cuando tenga publicaciones de calidad

Sin duda, depende del equipo, de la cantidad de trabajo que dediquen algunos curadores, o de si un voto positivo es realmente una recompensa por todo ese trabajo. En el caso de @solperez y de mí, no creo que lo sea.

I completely agree with this. And this should actually go without saying.
It certainly depends on the team, the amount of work some curators put in, or whether an upvote is actually a reward for all that work. In the case of @solperez and myself, I don’t think it is.
The upvotes I receive don’t even amount to an hour’s pay, not even 30 minutes’ pay, and I’m quite sure I’m the one who invests the most hours in others and also writes the most comments and tips. And by hours, I mean days of sometimes as many as 12 hours!
In the communities we frequent, I’ve only ever seen another curator team sporadically in two communities. And of the upvotes they gave, one team gave one to a well-known figure or fellow countryman (the other posts were invariably ignored, and this happened more than once).
I’ve only seen another SC give a brief tip to someone in another community alongside an upvote on three occasions.

Believe this kind of change will be fruitful. It is always great to see the Steemit team listening to the users.
Allowing individual applications gives everyone a fair chance, even if they aren't part of a well-reputed group. I clearly remember struggling to form or join a team in the past because my Reputation and SP were relatively lower (around 14k SP). Despite my strong interest, I couldn't apply alone. Even once or twice when I managed to find teammates to apply, they eventually left for better-established teams.
Removing subject themes will help curators focus on true post quality, and keeping track of the weekly top picks will help spread support to more regular users instead of the same small circle.I look forward to seeing how October goes!
On a personal note, I have delegated a good amount of SP to my local community to support its growth and development. Will having a high community delegation positively impact my application as an individual curator, or would it be better for me to reduce my delegation to strengthen my personal SP? I would really appreciate your guidance and feedback on this.

There are other reasons why they won’t collaborate with you. I can tell you why they won’t do so with me, though: simply because I choose a specific theme and expect my teammates to do the same. That doesn’t sit well with their own plans, or with the plans of the person who sent them to me. So I’m a no-go, as there’s no way to give the ‘home clique’ an upvote without me seeing it and saying something about it.
If you want to work with people like that, you’d have to be either deaf and blind, or incredibly stupid, or greedy enough, or corrupt.
I was here when solo application was experimented before May 2024. It's return is awesome 😎. I appreciate you, the Steemit team for having a listening ear. I also want to thank @dove11 for reviving this approach. Trust me, it will go well. My application in the shortest possible time

To the Steemit blog team and all team members, I am pleased to observe that our feedback is being regarded with seriousness by the Steemit team, and that they are acting upon it. I have one request: please ensure close monitoring of all Curation accounts, regardless of who is chosen for October. In my opinion, outgoing support should be overseen meticulously.

Change does not lead to results if there is no collective approach and if this is not applied over a longer period. And certainly not if the approach is subject to scrutiny.
The modus operandi of a group of corrupt Steemians who pull the strings month after month has flared up again in discussions. Perhaps it would also be worth looking into that.
The deals struck amongst themselves, with several members of a clique spread across the Steemit curator teams. This is one of the reasons to nominate a Steemit Curator, next to the idea that all Steem curators write good content and therefore the risk isn't taken to nominate someone new, someone who might have used AI.
This all already been discussed for months, if not years, and never taken seriously. The same counts if it comes to not nominate a Steemcurator. I am curious to hear how many teams never did , or even mentioned the number of nominated (and rewarded) curators in their reports.
It’s a shame that there aren’t more teams this month (and in general) that are actively posting comments and making connections. There is certainly a great need for this, just as there is for genuine guidance for newcomers asking for help.
