Dealing with corruption
In India one cannot deny that there is lot of corruption. When I was building my home, there were many legal formalities to be done, and almost at every step I had to pay some additional money to get the work done. At times I was so annoyed because the cost of the actual work is so less, but the bribe is 5 to 6 times of that. And one may think that why pay it, but sometimes there is absolutely no choice left but then to pay, else it will not move from one step to another, and these corruptions system is not only at one step it is at every step. There is no one you can go an complaint, if you try to do so, they will find some loop holes and get you in trouble, and even if that does not happen then you will end up running to the court with no conclusion. You are not even dealing here with people but you are dealing with systems.
So, by any chance if I would have put up the fight with these systems then till now I would have not got a single approval and I would have never been able to build up my home. Matters will be in court forever and possibly in this life time my home would have not got built. So if I was ready to do this sacrifice then I could have taken it up. But what's the point, I wanted to build the home, and if fighting with them I am not able to build then what am I fighting for.
This is one e.g. but it happens many times with other things also, if something small you can fight it up but when it becomes a system it's difficult to deal with them and breakthrough. Some years back, I had to travel for a job interview and my passport was getting expired. I wanted to renew it on urgent basis, I only had 3 days in hand to get it done. A person was willing to help me but again with a bribe, at that time I had to decide what was more important the job or dealing with the corruption. Of course it was the job so I had to pay. Like wise every time when you pay for corruption it is difficult to decide what is more important, the task or the money.
Why does the corruption exist in first place? Most of the government officers are paid so poorly that sometimes to meet their ends they get into taking bribes for that little extra money and slowly gradually it becomes a chain, and these days money has all the importance, everyone wants more of it. Anyways, it's difficult to deal with these situations but that's a reality we have to live with.
