Do you believe that fasting helps the physical body to heal from ailments, or if there is no ailment then does it help to keep the body in good shape?
Yes I do believe that fasting is very useful for the body. At the same time, fasting has to be done in a very structured manner. There are so many fasting methods in Intermittent fasting. Most common problem that people make in this process is, what food they consume when they break the fast. It is natural that when you are fasting you are starving your body, so by the time you break your fast you are super hungry and you tend to overeat or even eat wrong foods. Having high carbs on breaking the fast is not very healthy. On breaking the fast, the foods that you consume should be light to digest and then eventually one can increase the variety of food.

I like to break my fast with a bowl of salad or a soup. Then giving some time to settle on it, I have a main course which is protein based. For many years I have been following the 16 hour intermittent fasting cycle and it has been very helpful for me. Not only it has helped me to maintain my weight but also it has helped me with good health. There are few days especially when I am travelling, when I am not able to follow this cycle, but then when I get back home then for few days, instead of 16 hour I follow the 20 hours cycle to balance out. Then there are festival days when I tend to overeat, so after such days I get on to a one meal a day diet, which is normally called as OMAD. when I break my fast I am mindful of what I eat, because as I said that's very important. You do not want to fill up your stomach with unhealthy food when it's completely empty, because the absorption will happen fast.

Fasting has been one of the ancient practices and in India it has been very common, in some culture it has also been a religious practice. There are days of Ramadan, Navratri, Lent when people do fasting, so it's not only about one culture but the practice is spread out with different names in different cultures. And I am sure these practices were set by our ancestors with good knowledge of how to take care of the physical body. If you have any physical problem, try it out. In the beginning it will be difficult, gradually the body starts getting used to it. a 3 days fasting process has been extremely helpful in dealing with lot of health issues.

I just believe that when we keep eating and eating all the time, we are being harsh with our body. We are putting so much pressure on our digestive system to digest all the junk food. We need to be tender with our systems and only nourish it with what's healthy for it.
